IT all started in 20th century England when a soccer player who was sick and tired of moving the ball with his feet, decided to pick up the ball and run it in for a score. Even though it was against the rules the other players got caught on to the idea and invented the game called Rugby. This new sport soon found its way to America by the mid 1800s and was played mosly by college students. Soon enough Harvard and Yale University came together and modified the rules of Rugby and changed the ball from round to eggshaped. During this time they changed the name of the sport from rugby to football, and at the same time made a new group called the Intercolligate Football Association also known as IFA.
